For more than 40 years Buffalo Kaplinski has been a fine artist
establishing himself in the western U.S.
BUFFALO KAPLINSKI was born in the industrial city of CHICAGO , ILLINOIS in 1943 . his family heritage was everyone was a blue collar worker , his grandfather emigrated from a farm in POLAND & came to CHICAGO for a job - unloading railroad cars . his MOM worked in a cookie factory & then later MARS candy co [ snickers bars ] . his MOM had insight to his art talent [ 9 years old ] & took him for classes at the historic ART INSTITUTE & later private art lessons from a widowed pastors wife. the lessons consisted of coping paintings & photos . One of the paintings that KAPLINSKI did was a image of THOMAS MORAN'S paintings of the GRAND CANYON when KAPLINSKI was 14 . later on KAPLINSKI went to ART SCHOOL [ AMERICAN ACADEMY of ART ] & became a student of the famed IRVING SHAPIRO - MASTER WATERCOLORIST . later on after a brief career in COMMERCIAL ART - he left for TAOS , NEW MEXICO then later to DENVER . now living on an ICONIC COLORADO RANCH in ELIZABETH , COLORADO . BUFFALO says " THE LORD put me here "

MOLTEN SKY over MORAN POINT- GRAND CANYON 18" x 24 " watercolor.
I have been invited to the 14th ANNUAL CELEBRATION of ARTS - GRAND CANYON PLEIN AIR event - SEPTEMBER 10 , 2022 show will be there till JANUARY 16 , 2023 . there will be 22 artists working PLEIN AIR for a week , ART SHOW follows . it appears that I'm the only watercolorist . this painting will appear in the catalog .more info grandcanyon.org .
I wanted to do a painting that would capture the vastness of the GRAND CANYON and the various plateaus within it.all the forms in the canyon have a very eye catching design and pleasing color and this is apparent at MORAN POINT . the GRAND CANYON is WORLD CLASS scenery & is one of my favorite places next to MALISPINA GLACIER [ ALASKA ] & IGUACU FALLS [ BRAZIL ]. the colors I've selected are complimentary , warm & cool . the shadows are done with an exquisite color- iridescent manganese blue . the sky is a very wet watercolor wash complimented by the more hard edge forms of the canyon. SUE PHILLIPS & her late husband DOUG began collecting my work about 45 years ago , originally from ODETTES GALLERY, WALLY BAEHLER in GEORGETOWN , COLORADO. they used my paintings for labels & posters . last year SUE purchased a PLEIN AIR hollyhock for a label . scarlet hollyhock by a retaining wall that my son , JUAN DIMAS made . their collection has about 30 of my paintings .WOW !
